1979Alan Busacca, M.S., Ph.D. ’82, is the new director of the Center for Enology and Viticulture at Walla Walla Community College in Walla Walla, Wash. Nicknamed “Dr. Dirt,” he spent nearly 25 years as a professor of soil science and geology at Washington State University in Pullman, Wash., before leaving in 2005 to become a winemaker and industry consultant. (appeared in the Fall 2013 issue)   Solano County Superior Court Judge Bradley Nelson, J.D., was selected by his colleagues on the bench to serve as the court’s presiding officer, beginning in January. Judge Robert Fracchia, J.D., will be assistant presiding judge.  (appeared in the Fall 2013 issue)    Jack Wallace, Cred., died in his Roseville home in February. He was 82. He spent 27 years as a military police officer and Russian linguist before attending UC Davis. He taught languages in Roseville high schools for 16 years.  (appeared in the Fall 2013 issue)    Martha (Pultz) Amlin retired from the U.S. State Department in October. A Foreign Service officer since 2000, she served in the Philippines, Mexico, Afghanistan and Washington, D.C., working in management, consular and refugee assistance positions. She previously worked as a meeting and event coordinator for Stanford University, UC Davis School of Medicine and California’s Administrative Office of the Courts. She lives in Arlington, Va., but misses California. (appeared in the Spring 2014 issue)    Marilyn (Oliver Burlando) Lagier, Cred., MA ’81, retired in May after 39 years of teaching—34 years as a high school English teacher and the last five years as a home economics teacher. She lives in Stockton with her husband, four cats and two dogs. (appeared in the Spring 2014 issue)    David Pefley is CFO for Adaptive Planning, a cloud corporate performance management service with more than 1,800 customers in 85 countries. (appeared in the Spring 2014 issue)    Dane Steele, of Sacramento, died at age 63 on June 9. He was a middle school teacher.  (appeared in the Spring 2014 issue)    Carolyne La Jeunesse, D.V.M. ’83, was chosen by the American Veterinary Medical Association as a scientific adviser to Congress on animal and public health policy. She is an emergency and critical care veterinarian in Port Orchard, Washington, and past president of the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association.

Jerry Brown appointed Steve Montgomery, D.V.M. ’83, of Blythe, to another term on the Colorado River Fair board of directors, where he has served since 1998. Montgomery owns Circle H Veterinary Hospital in Blythe. (appeared in the Spring 2015 issue)    Debby Stegura is president of the Palos Verdes Library District board of trustees. She also is vice-president and president-elect of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association. (appeared in the Spring 2015 issue)    John Cole, M.S. ’86, production director for Kendall-Jackson Wine Estate in Santa Rosa, died in December of complications from multiple myeloma. He was 57. His wine career experience also included posts at Fetzer Vineyards and Trefethen Vineyards. (appeared in the Spring 2015 issue)
