1999Ming Ji, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in biostatistics at the Graduate School of Public Health, San Diego State University. He is currently doing research in tobacco control, microarray data analysis and biostatistics methodology. Ji says that he and his family love "beautiful San Diego," but also miss "bike city." (appeared in the Spring 2003 issue)   In February, former Aggie cross country and track athlete Nate Bowen finished 13th in the U.S. Marathon Championships in Alabama, with a lifetime best time of 2:21:25. That time earned Bowen a "B" mark for the Olympic trials. (appeared in the Summer 2003 issue)    Mala Sahai graduated from the Indiana University School of Law--Bloomington and married classmate Brad Scheick. (appeared in the Summer 2003 issue)    Amy Saundersand Jonathan Lawson '00 married in Sacramento last October before honeymooning in California's wine country. Saunders is a substitute teacher, working on her teaching credential and an M.S. in education. Lawson is a staff research associate at the California National Primate Research Center at UC Davis. (appeared in the Summer 2003 issue)    Christine Sosa works as an editor at CSLI (Center for the Study of Language and Information) Publications at Stanford University. An avid hiker, the Mountain View resident recently spent three weeks backpacking in Spain. (appeared in the Fall 2003 issue)    Kevin Nosek is the new head basketball coach at Menlo College in Atherton. Nosek previously served as assistant coach for the UC Davis Aggies. (appeared in the Winter 2004 issue)    Melanie Coronel completed her first marathon, the Honolulu Marathon, in December, with a time of just under five hours and 30 minutes. Two days earlier she and her longtime boyfriend, Chris Bulaon ’99, became engaged. They plan to wed in 2005. (appeared in the Spring 2004 issue)    Kevin Takakuwa, M.D., resident physician at the University of Pennsylvania, is one of the editors of What I Learned in Medical School (University of California Press). The book is a collection of first-person accounts of medical education, written by a diverse group of students. (appeared in the Spring 2004 issue)    Melissa Valentine Hill Davis of Sacramento died in November 2003 at age 28. She was a genetic counselor for Prenatal Diagnostics of Northern California and enjoyed the outdoors, including kayaking, backpacking, camping, rock climbing, cycling and deep sea diving. She was a member of the Sierra Club, the Easter Seals of Northern California and a Big Sister. Survivors include her husband, Phil Davis, and her parents. (appeared in the Spring 2004 issue)    Catherine Nyberg and Melissa Ross marked the second anniversary of their Southern California-based company, ikki handbags (www.ikkihandbags.com). Boutiques in California and several other states carry their line of distinctive handbags. (appeared in the Summer 2004 issue)    Olivia (Tiscareno) Howard and her husband, Patrick, welcomed their first child, Iris, in April. (appeared in the Fall 2004 issue)    Amy Levine married John Sutton in July in Westlake Village. Levine is a doctoral candidate in biology at the University of Rochester in New York, where Sutton is a doctoral candidate in English. (appeared in the Fall 2004 issue)    Kenneth Veit, M.S., M.A. ’01, married Lisa Meola in April and was recently selected to conduct an all-county middle school band. They both teach high school and live in Hackensack, N.J. (appeared in the Fall 2004 issue)    Jacquelyn Walker earned a doctorate in medicine from Michigan State University. She plans to enter the field of obstetrics and gynecology and has begun a residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich. (appeared in the Fall 2004 issue)    Micah McGlocklin, a professional paintball player and former stockbroker, recently opened a paintball center in Davis. (appeared in the Winter 2005 issue)    Katrina Ordonio graduated from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego. (appeared in the Winter 2005 issue)    Filming of the movie version of Tony Swofford’s memoir Jarhead was scheduled to start in December with actors Jamie Foxx and Jake Gyllenhaal and director Sam Mendes. William Broyles wrote the screenplay. (appeared in the Winter 2005 issue)    A Davis gallery showed an exhibition this fall of Iraq war photos by Max Whittaker. After three years working as staff photographer at the Marysville Appeal-Democrat, he went to Iraq on a freelance assignment for an international news agency last January. His photos have appeared in Time, Newsweek, Los Angeles Times, Le Monde, Newsday, San Francisco Chronicle, Sacramento Bee, Chicago Tribune and other publications. (appeared in the Winter 2005 issue)    John McKinsey, J.D., joined the law firm Stoel Rives in Sacramento. McKinsey specializes in environmental compliance and regulatory matters. (appeared in the Spring 2005 issue)    Gregory Federico and Laura Schwartz ’00 were married in July 2003. Federico is a fourth-year law student at University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento. Schwartz works for Eli Lilly & Co. in the neuroscience division. They live in West Sacramento.
