1994Benton Dorman Palumbo works as a special education administrator for the Desert Sands Unified School District in La Quinta and is a doctoral candidate in the organizational leadership program at the University of La Verne. He and his partner own a chain of dog grooming shops in Palm Springs. (appeared in the Winter 2005 issue) • Melyssa Guerry and her husband, Scott Brody, welcomed their first child, daughter Rachel, in November. They have since moved from San Diego to the Los Angeles area. (appeared in the Spring 2005 issue) • Bill Hirstein, Ph.D., has written Brain Fiction: Self-Deception and the Riddle of Confabulation (MIT Press). The book examines the science behind the tendency for some neurological patients to construct false answers to a question while believing they are telling the truth. (appeared in the Spring 2005 issue) • James “Bo” Pearl was named counsel at the Los Angeles law firm of O’Melveny & Myers. Pearl practices in the litigation department in O’Melveny’s Century City office. (appeared in the Spring 2005 issue) • J.R. Campbell, M.F.A. ’96, accepted a position as research fellow for the Centre for Advanced Textiles at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Campbell will do design and research, and work to secure funding for the center, which is focused on digital textile printing. Campbell is married to Mellissa English ’95. They have two children. (appeared in the Summer 2005 issue) • Pete Hall received the Outstanding Young Educator Award from the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. Hall is the principal of Anderson Elementary School in Reno, Nev., and is credited with helping turn the once-struggling school around. (appeared in the Summer 2005 issue) • John Levenberg was appointed associate winemaker for Bedell Cellars on Long Island, N.Y. Levenberg had been serving in a similar capacity with Paul Hobbs Winery following stints with wineries in France, New Zealand, Napa and Santa Cruz. (appeared in the Summer 2005 issue) • Shane Loomis left his consulting career to attend law school at Whittier College in Los Angeles. He is currently externing at the National Labor Relations Board, Region 21. Loomis, his wife, Jodi, and his daughter, Taylor, live in Aliso Viejo. (appeared in the Summer 2005 issue) • John Dodson and Sharon (Murphy) Dodson welcomed their third child, Devin Marie, in April. They also have a 3-year-old son, Jason Davis, and a 1-year-old daughter, Alexis Joan. John is a training and development manager at EDFUND in Sacramento, and Sharon is a resource specialist in the Elk Grove School District. (appeared in the Fall 2005 issue) • Steve Kircher and his wife, Carolyn, are expecting a baby girl in October. They currently live in Berlin with their 2-year-old son, George. Carolyn is a marketing director at Sanofi-Aventis, and Steve is a strategic account manager for UPS Supply Chain Solutions. The couple plans to raise their children to be bilingual. (appeared in the Fall 2005 issue) • Trace Genetics, a laboratory co-founded by Ripan Malhi, M.A. ’98, Ph.D. ’01, and Jason Eshleman, M.A. ’99, Ph.D. ’02, was acquired by the pharmaceutical genetics company DNAPrint Genomics. With Trace Genetics serving as its West Coast laboratory, Malhi and Eshleman will continue to provide services in genetic ancestry and ancient DNA as well as forensics. An expansion into pharmacogenomics research is also planned. (appeared in the Fall 2005 issue) • Robert and Jennifer (Schmidt) Orth ’96 celebrated the birth of their first child, daughter Karissa Jennifer, in January. Robert works as a pediatrician in private practice in Tulare, and Jennifer is a stay-at-home mom. The family lives in Visalia. They welcome e-mails from friends at jenniferorth@yahoo.com. (appeared in the Fall 2005 issue) • Peggy Browneller Paradis began teaching at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff this fall. In April she married Edward Paradis. (appeared in the Fall 2005 issue) • Cathy (Salita) Phillips and Jeff Phillips ’96 are the parents of a new baby girl, Katelyn Riley, born in April. (appeared in the Fall 2005 issue) • Elisa Skop, M.S., is in her sixth year at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. in Tarrytown, N.Y. She was recently promoted to manager of the Preclinical Development/Sample Analysis Group, which analyzes clinical trial samples for antigen and antibody levels. (appeared in the Fall 2005 issue) • Michael Holt, Cred. ’95, was selected as the Sacramento City Unified School District Teacher of the Year for 2005–06. He teaches with his wife, Ellen Anderson Holt, M.A. ’98, Cred. ’04, at California Middle School in Sacramento. They live in Davis with their fluffy malamute. (appeared in the Winter 2006 issue) • Khari Jones signed a free-agent contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. The former Aggie star’s five-year CFL career includes over 20,000 passing yards, 144 touchdowns and a league Most Valuable Player award. (appeared in the Winter 2006 issue) • Jennifer Bickham Mendez, M.A., Ph.D. ’99, associate professor of sociology at the College of William and Mary, has written From the Revolution to the Maquiladoras: Gender, Labor, and Globalization in Nicaragua (Duke University Press). (appeared in the Winter 2006 issue) • William Roach Jr. was promoted to senior associate landscape architect at the HLA Group, Landscape Architects & Planners in Sacramento. (appeared in the Winter 2006 issue) • Erika (Olson) Wilson, a flight attendant with Southwest Airlines, and her husband, Mike, operations manager for the North Lake Tahoe marina, welcomed a baby boy, Cooper William, in September. Their first son, Drew, will be 2 years old in January. They live in Reno, Nev. (appeared in the Winter 2006 issue) |
