| 1995Donald Blair earned his doctorate in osteopathic medicine from Kirksville College in Missouri. He will go on active duty as a captain in the U.S. Army upon completion of a residency program in radiology at a New York hospital. (appeared in the Fall 2004 issue) • Julie Breher, D.V.M. ’97, practices veterinary medicine for Banfield Pet Hospitals in Sacramento. (appeared in the Fall 2004 issue) • Aaron Foster currently lives in Los Angeles, where he makes a living as an artist and is pursuing an acting career. (appeared in the Fall 2004 issue) • Nitza Medina graduated from the Pratt Institute with an M.L.S. in library and information science. Also the recipient of the George Simor Merit Award in Archival Management and the Pratt Circle Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement, Medina accepted a position as records manager for the Episcopal Church in New York City. (appeared in the Fall 2004 issue) • Gregory James Prewoznik died in May 2004 of cancer at age 30. At the time of his death, he was maintaining a B+ average in his M.B.A. program at the University of Texas, despite undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments. He was to graduate just nine days after his death. Survivors include his girlfriend, Sara Von Haden, and his parents, Donna and Martin. (appeared in the Fall 2004 issue) • Joshua Blu Buhs published a book, The Fire Ant Wars: Nature, Science and Public Policy in Twentieth-Century America (University of Chicago Press), in November. A scholar on the overlap of politics, biology and ecology of 20th-century America, he has written articles that have appeared in Isis, Environmental History, The World of Genetics and Journal of the History of Biology. He lives in Misawa, Japan. (appeared in the Winter 2005 issue) • Nicholas DeBar recently joined the Minneapolis office of architectural and design firm LHB as a civil project manager. (appeared in the Winter 2005 issue) • Ashley Armstrong, former assistant athletic director of the University of Louisville, recently joined the UCLA athletic staff as the life skills and championships coordinator. (appeared in the Spring 2005 issue) • After graduating from medical school and finishing a residency and fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, Edgar “Sai” Catingub is joining the UC Davis Medical Center as a forensic psychiatrist. He, his wife, BrettAyn, and their two children, Ody and Maddy, have moved to Vacaville. (appeared in the Spring 2005 issue) • Dennis Raglin, J.D., became an associate of the San Diego law firm Wilson Petty Kosmo & Turner. Raglin, who specializes in product liability law, was previously with Drinker Biddle & Reath in San Francisco. (appeared in the Spring 2005 issue) • Alexandra MacDonald-Calhoun and John Calhoun celebrated the birth of their son, Ryan MacDonald, in January. John is a software engineer, and Alexandra is staying home to care for Ryan. The family lives in Colfax. (appeared in the Summer 2005 issue) • Martin Japtok, Ph.D., has written Growing Up Ethnic (University of Iowa Press), a book exploring similarities between African American and Jewish coming-of-age stories from the early 20th century. Japtok is an associate professor of English at Palomar College in San Marcos. (appeared in the Summer 2005 issue) • Gary and Shannon (Hensley) Thorn ’96, celebrated the birth of their first child, daughter Callie Noelle, in December. The family lives in Raleigh, N.C. (appeared in the Summer 2005 issue) • Jennifer Choi recently opened her own dental practice in Fair Oaks. She was previously the dental director at the Stockton Community Medical Center. Choi had worked for several medical device companies before returning to school and obtaining a D.D.S. degree from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. (appeared in the Fall 2005 issue) • Van Vu has joined the education law practice group of the Sacramento office of Best Best & Krieger. Her practice focuses on special-education law. (appeared in the Fall 2005 issue) • David Walgren, J.D., a Los Angeles County deputy district attorney, was part of the legal team that opposed clemency for Stanley “Tookie” Williams, the convicted murderer-turned-peace activist. Williams was executed in December. (appeared in the Spring 2006 issue) • Allen Andrade and his wife, Jennifer, had their third child, Kendall Lyn, in February. Kendall joins siblings Jaelyn, 7, and West, 5. Allen holds professional engineer and professional land surveyor licenses, and is a partner at a firm in the South Bay. Jennifer is a credentialed elementary school teacher, currently working from home. (appeared in the Summer 2006 issue) • Lara (O’Connell) Filgas and her husband, Dave, welcomed their third child, a daughter named Jennifer Irene, in February. She joins 5-year-old Lindsay and 3-year-old Michael. The family lives in Newbury Park where Lara teaches fifth grade. (appeared in the Summer 2006 issue) • Jeremy Seven married Katherine Morehead in San Francisco in January. The couple lives in Montclair. (appeared in the Summer 2006 issue) • Jeff Lutton works as a plant pathologist and manages the Grower Service Lab at Plant Sciences Inc. in Watsonville. Plant Sciences breeds strawberries, raspberries and artichokes. (appeared in the Fall 2006 issue) |
