| 2000Sarah Gruneisen recently joined Cambridge Technology Partners in San Mateo as an associate developer/consultant. (appeared in the Fall 2000 issue) • Kierstan DeLong was promoted to account executive at Deen + Black Public Relations, where she provides media relations and administrative assistance to the firm's government and public affairs divisions. (appeared in the Winter 2001 issue) • Veronica Flores is participating in a work exchange program through the International Agricultural Exchange Association, living in New Zealand at a dairy with a host family. She returns to the United States in April. (appeared in the Winter 2001 issue) • Stanley Mimoto and UC Davis computer science major Howard Hsu started Davis411.com, a Web site of information on businesses, events and services within the city of Davis. (appeared in the Winter 2001 issue) • Gavin Ow is in Tai'an, China, teaching English at the Shandong University of Science and Technology through Council Exchanges' Teach in China program. (appeared in the Winter 2001 issue) • Adrian Nœ–ez is one of 64 participants selected nationwide for the 2000-2001 Coro Fellows Program in Public Affairs. This nine-month graduate-level fellowship helps individuals prepare for careers in public life. (appeared in the Spring 2001 issue) • A woven textile work by Karen Hampton, M.F.A., titled Memories was featured in the recently published book Women Designers in the USA 1900-2000: Diversity and Difference (Yale University Press, 2000). Hampton won the Ellen Hansen Memorial Prize at UC Davis in 2000 for an embroidered textile piece titled Lessons, which was based on her research of textiles produced by African American female slaves in the South. She teaches weaving at College of Marin. (appeared in the Fall 2001 issue) • Onome Ojo, a former UC Davis wide receiver, signed a three-year, $1 million-plus contract with the New Orleans Saints. He was selected by the team in the fifth round of the NFL draft, becoming the first Aggie drafted by the league since quarterback Kevin Daft '99 was chosen by Tennessee two years ago. (appeared in the Fall 2001 issue) • Kathy Rousso, M.F.A., was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study the making of net bags in Guatemala, a disappearing tradition in that country. She will travel to Guatemala in October and will remain there about nine months. (appeared in the Fall 2001 issue) • Young-seob Hwang and Mina Hwang had their first child, Lia Jiwon, in May. He is a software engineer at Applied Materials in Santa Clara and can be contacted via e-mail at Young-Seob_Hwang@amat.com. (appeared in the Summer 2001 issue) • Jennifer Bachman and Nathan King were married in July. Both are graduate students at Pepperdine University in Malibu. King is in his second year in the master's program in clinical psychology, and Bachman is in the teaching credential program. (appeared in the Winter 2002 issue) • Navy Ensign Brett Bodine graduated from Basic Civil Engineer Corps Officer School in Port Hueneme. (appeared in the Winter 2002 issue) • John Crespi, Ph.D., assistant professor of agricultural economics at Kansas State University, received an award for Outstanding Dissertation of the Year from the American Agricultural Economics Association. Crespi specializes in agricultural marketing and trade, industrial organization, econometrics and applied microeconomics. (appeared in the Winter 2002 issue) • Chris Ramsey was named telephone outreach program manager of UC Davis' annual fund, where he manages as many as 75 student callers who raise more than $1.3 million annually. (appeared in the Winter 2002 issue) • Dale Brown and Karen Sobel plan to be married in May in Folsom. The two met as freshmen while living in Gilmore Hall. Sobel currently works as a research assistant for BioCentra Inc. in Davis, and Brown works as a civil engineer for the California Department of Water Resources. (appeared in the Spring 2002 issue) • Navy Ensign Salvatore D'Amato received his commission as a naval officer after completing Officer Candidate School at Naval Aviation Schools Command, in Pensacola, Fla. (appeared in the Spring 2002 issue) • Gustavo Mora is studying for his law degree at Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles. (appeared in the Spring 2002 issue) • Cindy Vahey, M.S. '01, recently joined ECO:LOGIC Engineering, a company specializing in municipal water, wastewater and stormwater facility planning, design and construction management. An engineer, Vahey is designing elements of the Lincoln Wastewater Treatment Plant and the West Sacramento Sewer Master Plan. (appeared in the Spring 2002 issue) • Lt. Daniel Gohlke was appointed to the staff of the commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps at the Pentagon and will help conduct daily intelligence briefings for the commander-in-chief of NATO and U.S. forces in Europe. Gohlke was commissioned in December 2000 and is a graduate of the FBI antiterrorism school at Quantico, Va., and the U.S. Naval Signal Intelligence School at Pensacola, Fla. This winter he did recruiting duty in Northern California, including on the Davis campus. (appeared in the Summer 2002 issue) • Andrea Medina and Daniel Himmelberger were married in September in Southern California. The two met on their first day of college in their dorm, Emerson Hall. Medina is currently working at Davis Sequencing, a DNA sequencing facility in Davis, and plans to return to UC Davis this fall to get a master's degree in forensic science. Himmelberger is associate director for Health Outcomes Group, a medical translation company based in Palo Alto. The couple recently bought a house in Natomas. (appeared in the Summer 2002 issue) |
