2001Stephanie Zook, currently a law student at UC Davis, recently published her first novel, The Slouching Tigers. It won the 2001 Ariadne Prize. (appeared in the Spring 2003 issue) • Sarah (Hurst) Dalske married Luke Dalske, an engineer, in May. The couple lives in Sacramento. (appeared in the Fall 2003 issue) • Shawn Harrison, M.S., is an urban farmer who runs Soil Born Farm, two acres in the middle of Sacramento where he raises organic vegetables. Harrison and his wife live in Rancho Cordova and recently welcomed their first child. (appeared in the Fall 2003 issue) • Derek Inokuchi received a master's degree in health science from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health, with a focus on behavioral science and health education. Then, after working with Georgetown University Health Education Services for a year, he recently accepted a new position as a research coordinator with ORC Macro, a research and consulting firm in Washington, D.C. He writes, "I love living in 'the district' and enjoy running into fellow capital city Aggies!" (appeared in the Fall 2003 issue) • Work by artist Marguerite Schaffron was recently exhibited in the Davis Community Clinic in a show titled Imagination. (appeared in the Fall 2003 issue) • Brittany Thompson is attending veterinary school at St. George's University, Grenada, West Indies. (appeared in the Fall 2003 issue) • Jordan Lindsey, along with current fourth-year UC Davis student Amit Katzir, formed The J Band three years ago after meeting at an open mike in Davis. The band, formerly known as Jordan & Amit, released a CD in November of what they describe as "world-folk music mixed with electronic-dance music." (appeared in the Winter 2004 issue) • John Mitchel was promoted to first lieutenant while serving in Iraq. He is currently the accountable officer for the supply support activity warehouse, which provides logistical support for the 4,200 soldiers in his brigade. (appeared in the Winter 2004 issue) • Michael Bethune and Carol San are engaged to be married. Bethune is a Ph.D. student in biochemistry at Stanford University, and San works with autistic children in the Bay Area. They can be reached at mbethune@stanford.edu. (appeared in the Spring 2004 issue) • Thomas “Tea” Austin qualified to participate in the U.S. Olympic swimming trials in July with a time of 23.26 seconds in the men’s 50-meter freestyle. (appeared in the Summer 2004 issue) • Mark Nassi plans to marry Jennifer Freckmann in June. Nassi is the director of programming for a political consulting firm called Penn, Schoen, Berland and Associates, and Freckmann is a bilingual kindergarten teacher at Academia Ana Marie Sandoval de Langual Dual Montessori. They live in Denver, Colo. (appeared in the Summer 2004 issue) • UC Davis law student Sam Paneno is a recipient of a University of Southern California Physically Challenged Athletes Scholarship. A former running back for the Aggies, Paneno lost his leg after a football injury in 1999. (appeared in the Summer 2004 issue) • Jennifer Titilah’s company, JMT Real Estate, a Northern California brokerage, appraisal and consulting firm, completed its second year of business. She lives in Mill Valley. (appeared in the Summer 2004 issue) • Jacqueline Beaumont and Sean McLean ’02 were married this summer in San Diego. They live in San Francisco, where McLean works as a business analyst for Target Corp. while Beaumont attends law school and pursues a public policy master’s degree at UC Berkeley. (appeared in the Fall 2004 issue) • Matthew Dey and Amy Barrett ’02 were married in April at Padre Serra Parish in Camarillo. They met at the UC Davis Newman Center and now live in Simi Valley. (appeared in the Fall 2004 issue) • Niki Lopez and Marty Cook are marrying in September. The wedding party will include Angela Lopez ’00, Noah Dowell ’00, Ronit Aviv ’01, Adrian Garcia ’01 and Tarika Leung ’03. Lopez and Cook live in Camarillo. (appeared in the Fall 2004 issue) • Darren Pollock received a master of divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in May, along with honors for contributions in music and for preaching. He has accepted a position as director of student ministries at La Crescenta Presbyterian Church. (appeared in the Fall 2004 issue) • Sarah (Breyer) Serhan, a teacher and family advocate for Head Start, recently married Anthony Serhan of San Diego. (appeared in the Fall 2004 issue) • Teresa Shen is studying traditional Chinese medicine in Tianjin, China. (appeared in the Fall 2004 issue) • Laura Takao is working toward a teaching credential in multiple subjects and special education at California State University, Hayward.
