2010Ramses Alvarez is a television news reporter in Medford, Ore., at the CBS affiliate KTVL. (appeared in the Spring 2011 issue)   Jonathan Bay is volunteering at Hopewell Inn, a nonprofit therapeutic farm and residency in Ohio for adults with severe mental illnesses. His assignment was arranged by Church of the Brethren’s volunteer service program following a three-week orientation in Oregon, which focused on service, nonviolence, peacemaking and simple living. (appeared in the Spring 2011 issue)    Elena Shapiro, M.A., recently wrote 13, rue Thérèse (Reagan Author Books), a novel about an American scholar who discovers a box of letters, photos and other artifacts, and his search to learn more about the French woman who once owned them. In February, Shapiro stopped by UC Davis to discuss her new book at an event in the bookstore. (appeared in the Spring 2011 issue)    Scott Heinig ’10, a former Aggies baseball team captain, died in April from head injuries sustained at a private party in Davis after Picnic Day. An avid baseball player and fan, he mentored young baseball players as a summer baseball camp counselor and as a volunteer pitching coach at Davis Senior High School, where he graduated in 2006. He is survived by his parents, Jane and Mark, and his sister, Adrienne. (appeared in the Summer 2011 issue)    Robert Machoian, M.F.A., began filming his first full-length feature movie, Forty Years from Yesterday, this summer. The script imagines how his mother’s death would unfold for his family. His company, 433 Pictures, has launched a fundraising campaign at Kickstarter.com to help finance the production. His short film, Charlie and the Rabbit, premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. (appeared in the Fall 2012 issue)    Ben Moroski is pursuing a writing and acting career in Los Angeles. He has written and performed a one-man play, This Vicious Minute, about his battle with self-injury. This Vicious Minute was a favorite at the 2012 Hollywood Fringe Festival. (appeared in the Spring 2013 issue)    Ignacio Torres works as a multimedia producer for NBCLatino.com, an all English digital branch of NBCNews aimed at Hispanic Americans. He was in charge of the site’s coverage of the Summer Olympics and the 2012 elections. After graduating from UC Davis, he earned a master’s degree from Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism. (appeared in the Summer 2013 issue)    Holly Locke and Kaitlyn Coyne ’12 co-directed their second Feather Falls Run in Davis in September to raise money for Okizu, an organization that benefits families with childhood cancer. The first event in 2012 raised $14,000, with the help of a number of Aggie alumni volunteers. Learn more at featherfallsrun.org. (appeared in the Fall 2013 issue)    Will Sinks is a technical marketing engineer for Cisco Systems, where he helps script and stage keynote presentations by CEO John Chambers and other executives of the San José-based computer networking corporation. Three other members of his 10-person team are Aggies—Scott Neumann ’94, Matt Wong ’05 and David Sun ’11. (appeared in the Fall 2013 issue)    Genevieve Costello, a former point guard and captain of the Aggie women’s basketball team, died in San Diego in May, less than a month after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was 26.  (appeared in the Fall 2013 issue)    Mary Menezes earned a pharmacy degree from Harding University College of Pharmacy in Searcy, Arkansas, and works as a long-term care pharmacist for Allcare in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

2011Elizabeth Stitt, former intern with UC Davis Magazine, works as a press aide in the state Capitol office of Assembly Speaker John Pérez, D-Los Angeles. (appeared in the Spring 2012 issue)   Amanda Epple is an engineer in the construction management division of San Diego-based Simon Wong Engineering. She is currently working on projects for Caltrans. (appeared in the Fall 2012 issue)    Karl Frost, M.F.A., M.S. ’12, a choreographer and a UC Davis ecology doctoral student, will spend this academic year at the University of British Columbia on a Fulbright Canada scholarship. His dissertation work focuses on the evolution of religion and ritual and their effects on human cooperation and altruism. He directs the dance theater company, Body Research. (appeared in the Fall 2013 issue)    John Garrison, Ph.D., teaches English literature at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisc. In 2012–13, he received research fellowships from the Folger Shakespeare Library, American Philosophical Society and the Beinecke Library at Yale University. His first book, Friendship and Queer Theory in the Renaissance, was recently released by Routledge. (appeared in the Spring 2014 issue)    Willie Fong is serving a year as an AmeriCorps member with nonprofit College Possible Portland, helping 40 low-income high school juniors in Portland, Ore., improve their ACT scores and prepare for the college application process. He previously served a year with AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps helping to clean up after hurricanes Irene and Sandy. (appeared in the Spring 2014 issue)    Christopher Bocian, of Woodland, died at age 28 on October 28.
  (appeared in the Spring 2014 issue)    Ben Rosenthal, M.F.A., an assistant professor of expanded media at the University of Kansas, is a collaborator in human, next, a performance that intertwines contemporary dance with video art. In March, the 12-minute piece was performed in New York City and a video adaptation, Human, Next: Phase One, was screened at Athens Animfest in Greece.  (appeared in the Summer 2014 issue)
2012Giselle “Gigi” Ross, a former UC Davis Dance Team member, auditioned for and made the 2012 Raiderettes, the Oakland Raiders’ cheer/dance squad. She was depicted as one of the hopefuls in a Comcast Bay Area special in May. (appeared in the Fall 2012 issue)   Sam Mahood, of Sacramento, was hired in December as communications director for state Sen. Mark Desaulnier (D-Concord). He previously worked as a press aide for Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles). (appeared in the Spring 2013 issue)
