1972Bobbie Fite (Barbara Vetter), now retired from her state job, has written three romance novels: Storm Damage (2013), Sunshine and the Bounty Hunter (2012) and Nightmares (2012), all published by CreateSpace and available as ebooks. Her website is bobbiefite.com.
1973Gary Parker, a maxillofacial surgeon, was featured prominently in a 60 Minutes segment, “Africa Mercy: Hospital Hope,” in February. Parker has worked on the hospital ship for 26 years, removing disfiguring facial tumors from west African patients. The 12-minute segment is viewable online at cbsnews.com, along with a Web extra video, “Raising kids at sea: Meet the Parkers,” about Parker, his wife, Susan, and their teen children Carys and Wesley.
1975Gloria Ramirez-Carboni, Cred., M.A. ’78, of Davis, died in her home last November from ovarian cancer at age 60. She was a teacher for nearly 30 years, including 12 years at Emerson Junior High School in Davis. She also was a volunteer at the UC Davis Arboretum, a docent at the Mondavi Center and a nutrition educator. Survivors include husband, Reynaldo, J.D. ’77, and three children.
1978After 12 years as publisher and editor of Tahoe Quarterly, Charles “Chaco” Mohler, resigned in February to become vice president of Destination Media Solutions. He produces television and digital media and seeks new markets for the Tahoe City company. He co-founded Tahoe Quarterly, which has won numerous ADDY awards from the American Advertising Federation and has twice been a finalist for the Western Publishing Association’s Maggie Award for best regional magazine. He lives in Truckee with wife, Melissa, and younger daughter, Taysa. Elder daughter, Makaiah, is a freshman at Georgetown University.    David A. Hall died in March while recovering from surgery at a hospital in Millinocket, Maine. He was 69. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he worked for Boeing and returned to his hometown of Lincoln, Maine, after retiring.
1979Patrick Mock and Teresa Hilleary ’80 have lived in San Diego for 25 years. He is a principal scientist at URS Corp., an engineering and environmental consulting firm. She is a clinical dietitian at the VA Medical Center in La Jolla.    Robyn Parnell’s middle-grade novel, The Mighty Quinn, was released by Scarletta Press in June. 1980Reed Patton Smith, a former U.S. Navy flight officer and Navy contractor, died in Coronado after a 19-year battle with thyroid cancer. He was 55. As an Aggie, he was a 13-time NCAA Division II All America swimmer. Survivors include his wife, Jan (Erickson) ’77; three daughters; his mother; and a sister.    Janet Davidson Thomas, of San José, died in May 2012 after a 10 year battle with colon cancer. She worked as a technical writer for medical products. Later, she wrote historical fiction about life in the Royal Navy in the 1800s. She is survived by her husband, a son and a daughter.
1981Kelly (Hyde) Fehr joined Cameron MacAllister Group this spring as principal consultant, specializing in business development for the firm’s architecture, engineering and construction clients. She previously worked at HOK as vice president of business development for science and technology.    Patricia Troxel, M.A., a respected Central Coast theater artist and teacher, died in April after a four-year battle with breast cancer. She was 56. She directed dozens of plays at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts Theaterfest. She was also active with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Utah Shakespeare Festival. She was an English faculty member at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where she taught dramatic literature, playwriting and Shakespeare, from 1990 until her retirement in 2010. After earning her UC Davis degree, she earned a doctorate from Princeton University.
1982Carol Folt, Ph.D. ’82, is the new chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill—the first woman to lead the public university since it opened in 1795. “It’s the honor of the lifetime,” Folt told students, faculty and staff there when she was introduced as chancellor-elect in April. Her new post was effective July 1. Folt served the past year as interim president of Dartmouth College, where she has been a biological sciences faculty member since 1983 and has held an endowed professorship since 2007. She and her husband, David Peart, M.S. ’78, Ph.D. ’82, a professor of biological sciences at Dartmouth, have two children, Noah, 27, and Tessa, 25.    Danna Mezin joined the National 4-H Council’s Board of Trustees in April. A 4-H alumna, she is chief operating officer for UnitedHealthcare Community & State.    Ceramic sculptures by Lisa Reinertson, M.F.A. ’84, exploring the human relationship with the animal world, were exhibited this spring at the Pence Gallery in Davis. In conjunction with the show, Lisa Reinertson: Edge of Extinction, the artist joined UC Davis wildlife veterinarian Kirsten Gilardi, D.V.M. ’93, in May for a talk “Hope for Endangered Animals.” Reinertson’s public commissions include the bronze memorials of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in UC Davis’ King Hall and Cesar Chavez in Sacramento’s Chavez Plaza Park.    Rich Stewart was appointed to the El Dorado Planning Commission in January.
1984Sarah Tigerman, a San Francisco attorney and former career counselor at UC Hastings College of Law, died in February after a long illness. She was 52. She was devoted to a number of causes, including gay rights and environmental preservation. Survivors include her partner and two godchildren.    Rebekah Wold, M.D. ’88, a Chico pathologist, died in January at age 50. She is survived by husband Jim Schlund ’80, M.D., ’85; two daughters; her parents; a brother; and a sister.
1985Ricardo Fierro wrote the college textbook Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers (Cengage Learning, 2013). He is a professor of mathematics and associate dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at California State University, San Marcos. He and his wife, Nancy (Landis) ’86, have two teen children, Mitchell and Samantha.
1986John Kellner died in Cedar Park, Texas, following a six-month battle with melanoma cancer. He was 49. After earning a master’s degree in computer science from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, he worked at Teradyne in Thousand Oaks and at IBM in Raleigh, N.C., and Austin, Texas.    Susan Hermanson Milton, of Roseville, died of cancer in February at age 49. A former dental hygienist, she was active in her children’s school and sports activities.
