Class Notes Archive 1931-2014: Winter 2011

1987Playwright Elaine Romero, M.F.A., teaches playwriting, screenwriting and television writing at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. Her commissioned play, Ponzi, has won a 2010 Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award in support of an upcoming world premiere at Kitchen Dog Theater in Dallas. Rain Of Ruin was produced at the Short+Sweet festival in Sydney, Australia. Revolutions, recently published by Smith and Kraus, will be presented at the Panama National Theatre. Wetback was presented at Arkansas Repertory Theatre as part of Voices at the River and is receiving a staged-reading at Urban Stages in New York.     Conrad Davis was recently named the 2010–11 chair at the California Society of CPAs. He is a forensic accountant and partner of the CPA firm Ueltzen & Company in Sacramento, where he has been since 2001. He and his wife, Denise Jones ’86, have two children, Sydney, 18, and Chase, 11.
1988Chris Riggio and his wife, Jean Bodeau, recently moved from Alaska to Houston, Texas, where he is a contractor to Chevron on the multibillion dollar Wheatstone natural gas project in Western Australia. He and his wife spend their free time hiking, mountaineering and participating in environmental and social justice work.
1989Charles McBride began a new job as finance director for the city of Carlsbad in August. He is responsible for the city’s $250 million dollar budget and advises the city manager and council on financial planning, projects and economic forecasts. He was previously the assistant director of finance for the city of Santa Monica. McBride also has served as a U.S. Marine Corps attack helicopter pilot since 1991, and is a lieutenant colonel in the reserves.   Juliette Kimes was a finalist for the Association of Sewing & Design Professionals and Threads Magazine’s “Suit Your Style” challenge. Her entry was modeled in New Jersey at the association’s national conference in October. She lives in Dripping Springs, Texas.
1990Chemistry professor David Patrick was given the Carl H. Simpson Bridging Award in September from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash., for his work in co-founding and directing the university’s Advanced Materials Science and Engineering Center, which brings together experts in chemistry, physics, geology, math and engineering technology.
1992Brian Hancock is scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan as an executive officer with the 307th Tactical Psychological Operations Company. He joined the U.S. Army in 2006 after 17 years running a business in downtown Davis. In 2007, he was named the U.S. Army Reserve Soldier of the Year and represented the U.S. Army Reserve in a worldwide all-army competition. He completed officer training in military intelligence in 2009. He wrote the article, “Memetic Warfare: The Future of War,” published in the spring edition of the Military Intelligence Professional Bulletin.    Michael Chang is in charge of business and legal affairs for the Asia Pacific region at Warner Brothers Consumer Products. As a board member of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Southern California Chapter, he participated in the Street Law Program, where lawyers taught entertainment law to 11th and 12th graders at Dorsey High School in Los Angeles.
1993Jody (Meyerson) Amos married Steve Amos, a controller for Marin Community Clinics, in July. She is a data analysis and configuration manager for Adecco Solutions. They live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
1994Lisa Harper, M.A., Ph.D. ’98, received the 2010 River Teeth Literary Nonfiction Prize for her book, A Double Life: Discovering Motherhood (University of Nebraska Press), due to be released in March. She is a faculty member in the M.F.A. program at the University of San Francisco and lives in Redwood City with her husband, an art director at PDI/Dreamworks, and their two children.   Lisa Harper, M.A., Ph.D. ’98, received the 2010 River Teeth Literary Nonfiction Prize for her book, A Double Life: Discovering Motherhood (University of Nebraska Press), due to be released in March. She is a faculty member in the M.F.A. program at the University of San Francisco and lives in Redwood City with her husband, an art director at PDI/Dreamworks, and their two children.   Jennifer Anderson, M.A., recently wrote The Illustrated Frankenstein, a retelling of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein in a picture-book format. She is a former Stegner fellow in fiction writing at Stanford University. Her first published story “Things That Make Your Heart Beat Faster,” included in The Best American Mystery Stories 2001, received a Pushcart honorable mention. She lives in Napa with her husband and two daughters.
1996Construction attorney Sean-Thomas Thompson is a new partner in the real estate and construction practice Hanson Bridgett law firm in Sacramento. He previously practiced with Sacramento-based McDonough Holland + Allen.    Eric Concannon rejoined Integral Group, the mechanical engineering firm he helped create in 1997, after spending the past several years working in Wyoming as a field instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School. Integral Group, formally known as Rumsey Engineers, practices green building methods. He lives in Oakland with his wife, Kristen Brown, and their 2-year-old son, Rowan.
1997Patrick Len, Ph.D., is a guest moderator for the Center for Astronomy Education “Astrolrner” listerv, a discussion group for improving college-level astronomy teaching and learning. He teaches introductory astronomy and physics at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. His wife, Heather McElroy ’02, is a research assistant at Santa Cruz Biotechnology in Paso Robles.
1998Joseph Johnson was promoted to partner at Deloitte Tax in San Francisco. He and his wife, Rebecca ’00, live in San Ramon with their children, Alexa and Isaac.
1999Colleen Lindsey-Cope and her husband, Kevin Cope, welcomed their son, Elliot Levi, in August. Colleen is a project manager at Genentech in South San Francisco and Kevin is a project manager at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.   Katharine (Lee) Kobayashi and husband Frank Kobayashi 00 welcomed their second child, Koby Victor, in April.
2000Shawn Sherburne began a new job as manager of classified operations with the San Francisco Unified School District in December.   Kathy Rousso, M.F.A., recently wrote Maguey Journey: Discovering Textiles in Guatemala (University of Arizona Press), based on research she began with a 2001–02 Fulbright grant.
