1983Rabbi Yonason (Jonathan) Goldson recently had his first book on Jewish history and philosophy published, Dawn to Destiny: Exploring Jewish History and its Hidden Wisdom (Judaica Press). He also writes a blog, Torah Ideals, at www.torahideals.comhttp://torahideals.comwww.torahideals.com. He lives with his wife, Sara, and their children in St. Louis, Mo., where he teaches Torah at Block Yeshiva High School.    Sheryl King, Ph.D., a professor of animal science at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, was one of seven faculty members honored by the university in April for outstanding scholarly work. She is an authority on the reproductive systems of horses and cows, particularly the mechanisms controlling mares’ seasonal reproductive cycles. She also has sought alternatives to traditional antibiotic treatment of uterine infections and recently finished a study evaluating supplements that reduce stress.   Chris Staring was appointed by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer to the Pima County Superior Court bench in March. He had been a partner with law firm Fennemore Craig, where he began his corporate and commercial insurance litigation practice in 1986. He earned his law degree with honors from Tulane University. “He has an exceptional reputation and is well respected by his clients and adversaries,” Brewer said in a statement announcing the appointment. “I have no doubt he will be great judge for the citizens of Pima County.”
1985Daniel Egan was recently named managing partner of Wilke, Fleury, Hoffelt, Gould & Birney, a 30-lawyer firm in Sacramento. He is married to Mary (Albiani) Egan, a public sector labor relations consultant and expert witness. They live in Wilton with their three sons.
1986N. Louise Glass, Ph.D., a professor of plant and microbial biology at UC Berkeley, has been elected a fellow in the American Academy of Microbiology.    Chris Hardt, an Edward Jones financial adviser in Westlake Village, was recently named a principal with the firm’s holding company, the Jones Financial Companies. He and his wife, Lydia, have two children, Kasey and Spencer.    Terri Roth, M.S. ’88, vice president of conservation and science and director of the Lindner Center for Conservation and Research of Endangered Wildlife at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, was honored in May at a YWCA Salute to Career Women of Achievement luncheon in Cincinnati. The first female vice president at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, Roth manages a state-of-the-art research facility and directs a postdoctoral program for young scientists. She is a reproductive advisor with the Conservation Breeding Specialist Group of the World Conservation Union and its Species Survival Commission, research team leader for Polar Bears International’s Polar Bear Sustainability Alliance, an adjunct biology professor at the University of Cincinnati and a distinguished off-campus scholar at Miami University.
1989Jae Jung, Ph.D., professor and chair of the molecular microbiology and immunology department at University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine, has been elected a fellow in the American Academy of Microbiology.
1990Black and white photographs by Black Moon, M.F.A., will be featured in a group show opening Aug. 6. at the Photo Laboratory gallery in Berkeley. Her current work can also be seen at www.BlackMoonStudio.net.
1991Susana (Suzanne) Chávez Silverman, Ph.D., has written second bilingual memoir, Scenes from la Cuenca de Los Angeles y otros Natural Disasters (University of Wisconsin Press). She discusses her latest book in an interview with “La Bloga” (abloga.blogspot.com/2010/04/interview-with-susana-chavez-silverman.htm).    Vince Verde was recently tapped by labor and employment law firm Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart to become co-managing shareholder of its new Orange County office. He represents management in employment cases and handles commercial litigation. He earned his law degree from Boston University in 1995 and serves on the board of the Philippine American Bar Association of Los Angeles.   Jeff Hoover ’91, an assistant football coach for Eastern Illinois and former member of Aggie conference championship football teams, died in a car crash last November on his way home from a playoff game against Southern Illinois. He was 41. His car swerved to miss a deer and rolled over. His wife, Penny, and their two children, Lauren and Cole, and Eastern Illinois strength coach Eric Cash and his family were also in the car but survived. Mr. Hoover was in his third season as Eastern Illinois’ offensive line coach. He had previous assistant coaching positions at Portland State, Utah State, Henderson State and UC Davis, and briefly coached the Arena Football League’s Sacramento Attack.
1992Stephen Silver and his wife, Shoshana, welcomed a baby boy, Samuel Jared, in January.    Randy Scott Wong recently drove the annual Texas Standing Mile at the Goliad, Texas, airfield in his 2006 Ford GT(40) car at an electronically clocked speed of 171 mph. He is the owner of I-5 Self Storage Facility in Tustin, which won a 2009 national trade award for its conversion from an old industrial building into one of the largest and most modern storage facilities on the West Coast.
1993Laura (Masner) Rasmussen was made partner at the law firm of Farr, Kaufman, Sullivan, Jensen, Olds, Kaufman, Rasmussen & Nichols, the oldest and largest law firm in Ogden, Utah.   Tad Ravazzini and his wife, Robin, welcomed their daughter, Brynn Noelle, in December. Brynn joins big sisters Katie, 5, and Annie, 3. The family lives in Mill Valley. Tad is an associate general counsel at Facebook in Palo Alto.   Joseph Unger ’93 died suddenly of heart failure in his Augusta, Ga., home in February. He was 41. At UC Davis, he majored in mechanical engineering, contributed to the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Project and played offensive guard for the football team. During his professional career, he worked as a product design engineer for Taylor-Dunn, E-Z-Go and most recently John Deere. He is remembered for his loyalty and love for his family and friends, patriotism, love of nature, quest for adventure, infectious smile and caring heart. He is survived by his wife, Shannon; children Isabelle, Tess, Hallie and Jack; stepson Jaron; mother, Virginia; and brother, Charles.
1994Lindsey (Litchfield) Mann and her husband, Chris, welcomed their second child, Timothy, in March. The family lives in Miami, Fla.    Matt Mason, M.A., has been named executive director of the nonprofit Nebraska Writers Collective, dedicated to putting visiting poets into schools for the benefit of both students and teachers.    Terri Bates Walker recently joined Village Associates Real Estate in Orinda as a broker associate (www.terribateswalker.com). A former practicing real estate attorney, she is in her ninth year of selling residential real estate. She will continue to represent buyers and sellers of distinguished homes in Contra Costa County’s Lamorinda area, as well as in Piedmont and Oakland. She lives in Orinda with her husband and three children.
