1983Paul Hosley was recently named news director at KGO NewsTalk 810 radio in San Francisco. He had been associate news director at KCBS All News radio in San Francisco. Hosley and his wife, Sally (Garbeff) ’85, live in Davis where she is a tennis instructor. They have three sons.    Maj. Michael Spears is a senior intelligence adviser currently on a year’s assignment in Iraq, assigned to a unit on the country’s border with Iran. He is part of an 11-member team composed of experts in a variety of fields.
1984Bruce Berkman was honored with the “outstanding alumni” Award of Distinction from the UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences for his entrepreneurship and environmental protection. Berkman is CEO of Pacific GeoPRO, a Taiwan company that provides geospatial information for businesses throughout Asia, and is on the board for the Jane Goodall Institute, a conservationist organization that works to protect primates.   Jim DeLoach of Los Altos has been promoted to principal engineer with Qualcomm Inc.    Steve Hammer received a Ph.D. in urban planning from the London School of Economics. He currently consults globally on renewable energy issues and teaches energy policy courses at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. In July he lectured on energy issues in Shanghai and is currently working on energy projects with the Shanghai municipal government.    Gary Hernandez, J.D., has been named one of the 100 most influential Hispanics in the United States by Hispanic Business magazine. Hernandez, a partner with San Francisco-based law firm Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP, serves on the board of directors of the Latino Community Foundation and in the past has been recognized for his accomplishments by the San Francisco Business Times and California Lawyer magazine.
1985Ken Kirsch exhibited his paintings in a fall show at Nestware, a store in downtown Davis. Kirsch, an abstract painter and owner of MAK Design+Build, has previously exhibited his work at the Bucheon Gallery in San Francisco.    Scott Morgan has recently co-written a book, Speaking about Science: A Manual for Creating Clear Presentations (Cambridge University Press). Morgan is a professional public speaker in Washington, D.C., who designs courses and teaches presentation skills to scientists and medical researchers, and a professional actor who hosts Home and Garden Television’s Dream Builders series.   Kevin Pelzer, M.P.V.M., was honored by the student chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association with a 2006 Teaching Excellence Award in Clinical Science. He is an associate professor at the Virginia–Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg.
1986Nanette Walker Smith completed her master’s of education degree at the University of Central Florida in August. She and her U.S. Air Force active-duty husband, Dave, and children Alyssa and Madison are now stationed at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, where she is content director, continuing education coordinator and instructor of online continuing education for the Veterinary Support Personnel Network, an international community for veterinary support staff.
1987Victoria Colliver married William Cautero, a high school teacher originally from New York, at the UC Botanical Garden in Berkeley. Marleen Sacks was a chuppah bearer. Colliver is a reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle.   Anne McMillin received a third-place award for Best Feature Story at the 2006 Nevada Press Association awards banquet in Las Vegas. McMillin is the staff reporter for the weekly community newspaper Fallon Star Press, which serves Churchill County, Nev.
1988Nahum Goldberg recently accepted a position as senior associate with the food-service design and consulting firm Cini-Little International. Since graduating, Goldberg has lived in Israel and worked in food-service operations and consulting until returning to the United States in 2002. He lives in Richmond and is married with four children.   John Kain has written a new book, A Rare and Precious Thing: The Possibilities and Pitfalls of Working with a Spiritual Teacher (Crown Publishing). After living and writing in New York for 10 years, he recently moved to Ashland, Ore.   George Cherry Marron Jr. graduated from ITT Technical Institute’s online program with a master’s degree in business administration in September.
1990Yong “Michael” Yim, J.D., died in a car crash in August 2006 at age 43. His wife, Lan Kim Yim, and his son, Brandon, 7, also died in the accident, which occurred during a visit to Hawaii. His other son, Lindon, 5, survived the crash. A resident of Irvine who moved to California from Korea in 1968, Mr. Yim was a prominent lawyer in the Southern California Korean community. Survivors also include his twin brother, Jack.
1991Jason Biggs, senior counsel for M&M Corporate Services Inc. in Palo Alto, and his wife, Gaylene, welcomed the birth of their second son, Grayson Alexander, in February, joining brother Gage Dominic, 2. The couple lives in Mountain View.    Scott Elfen was appointed general manager of Vector Engineering’s Lima, Peru, office. He moved to Peru in 1999 as the engineering manager.    Barry and Kathy (Cleary) Fisher opened GROW The Produce Shop in Manhattan Beach, featuring organic and conventional fruits and vegetables. Barry has been exporting produce to Asia for over 15 years and recently decided to bring his knowledge to the Los Angeles area.   Shawn (Tiffin) Griffin was named bulk supply manager for Constellation Wines. Griffin has been with the company for 14 years and lives in Madera with husband Bill and sons Zach and Josh.
