Exam A

This test had nothing to do with the more recent Subject A (English composition) requirement for admission to UC Davis and other UC campuses. In the campus’s earliest days, students had to demonstrate a different kind of fluency in order to graduate. To pass Examination A, they needed to show that they could milk a cow, handle a walking plow and harness, drive a horse or horse team and perform other manual farm work.
