'70 Greg Maurer, M.S. '72, recently relocated from San Francisco to Paducah, Ky., as engineering manager for the Olmsted Locks Replacement Project on the Ohio River near Olmsted, Ill.

'72 William D. "Nick" Concolino III was recently promoted to captain and deputy chief of the city of Davis police department after 25 years on the force. He now commands the patrol, investigations and youth services divisions, and will continue to serve as commander of the Yolo County Bomb Squad. Concolino received his certificate in

criminal justice from UC Davis Extension and is currently working toward his master's degree in management. He has also been decorated with such commendations as Officer of the Year, the Davis Police Medal of Valor, the Davis police chief's Medal of Distinction, the American Police Hall Silver Star and the state attorney general's Certificate of Valor. James H. Dooley, M.En., was recently named a fellow of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers. Dooley, a 24-year member of the association, is president and owner of Trout Creek Associates in Federal Way, Wash. He received the award for his contributions to biological technology, biological sensors, agriculture equipment and total quality management in agriculture. Jim Olson has joined 3Com Corp. as vice president and general manager of a newly formed organization dedicated to providing equipment and services for use on wide-area networks (WANs). He previously served as general manager for Hewlett-Packard's video communications division.

'73 Robert Densmore Brill, a writer and educator, recently helped introduce a combined third-fourth grade class from Foster City to the historic town of Locke through a field trip to this last rural Chinese community in the United States. Brill lives in Pacifica. James Hoff, an internist, was named Lodi Memorial Hospital Physician of the Year for 1996. Hoff lives in Lodi with his wife and four children, and has practiced at the Lodi hospital since 1983. George P. Roach has joined the law firm of Hughes & Luce as an associate. Roach works in the financial services section of the firm's Dallas office.

'74 Deborah Samii recently joined University Extension at UC Davis as director of administrative and financial services. Samii previously served as a budget officer for UC San Francisco and as an instructor for accounting and general business courses at San Francisco City College. In addition to her child development degree from UC Davis, Samii has a master's degree in counseling psychology from UC Santa Barbara and a three-year degree in psychology from the University of Lund, Sweden.

'75 John A. Booth, M.D., recently completed his training in adult psychoanalysis at the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute. He practices psychiatry in Sacramento and lives in the Land Park area with his wife, Vicky, and his son, Jim. Ellen L. (Bennett) Hickerson earned her master's degree in nutritional science in 1994 and is now a dietitian for Senior Congregate Meal Sites. She and her husband of five years, Neal, recently had a son, Alexander O'Neal. They live in Bethany, Okla.

'76 Grant Bakewell received his Master of Divinity Degree from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley. Bakewell plans to do youth work with the Santa Clara Council of Churches and hopes eventually to establish a Christian-Interfaith "House Church" for the homeless community in downtown San Jose.

'77 Janis M. Bandelin, Cred. '78, has been appointed director of the James B. Duke Library at Furman University in Greenville, S.C. Bandelin has previously served as a librarian and administrator at Mercer and Texas Christian universities, as well as Texas Women's University and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Library. A native of Lodi, Bandelin holds master's and doctoral degrees from Texas Woman's University. Christi (Landenberger) Heintz, M.S. '79, has been named research director for the Almond Board of California. Heintz will be responsible for both production and nutrition research and new product development and will assist with general operations of the board. She lives in Sacramento with her husband and three children.

Atef Idriss and Lena Yashruti were married in March. They live in Lebanon.

'78 Dave DaRold, along with his wife, Bonnie, owns and operates DaRold DeSigns, a graphic arts and sign studio in Davis. They recently completed a large tile mural honoring contributors to the UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory. Jenlane Gee Matt and her husband, Jerry, have just completed a tour of the dog show circuit with their champion Shih Tzu, Sinbad.

'79 Phillip L. Dunn, a certified fisheries scientist, has been named a principal of Jones & Stokes Associates, a West Coast environmental consulting firm. Dunn manages water resources, fisheries and instream flow projects. Elizabeth "Izzy" J. Martin was elected chair of the Nevada County Planning Commission in February. Martin, along with her husband, Mike Pasner, and their two children, operates Indian Springs Organic Farm in Penn Valley.
