STUDENT LIFE: Even for students, summer's not always a vacation. For many, it's time to find a job. The UC Davis Student Employment Center handed out 55,871 referrals for its some 6,000 listings of on- and off-campus jobs, reports Manager Pat Gutierrez. One of the more popular employment opportunities--because of the potential for big tips--is casino dealer, with Harrah's in Lake Tahoe regularly hiring UC Davis students. One hired this summer was April Fontaine (below right), who dealt 21. A little closer to campus, Sunsweet Dryers in Winters also looks to UC Davis for summertime help.
