'80 Timothy J. Dennehy, Ph.D. '83, a research scientist at the University of Arizona College of Agriculture, was named 1997 Faculty Member of the Year by the Arizona Agriculture "100" Council for his work in pest management.

Lorri Fien has edited the second edition of the Directory of Northern California Associations (Resource Exchange). The annual directory profiles professional and trade associations and labor unions that are headquartered in one or more of the 52 counties between Bakersfield and the California-Oregon border. Fien also provides public relations services to small businesses and associations and works part time with a company that manages four professional associations. She lives in Walnut Creek.

Lisa Hettler-Smith recently graduated with honors from San Jose State University with a master's degree in business administration. She lives in San Jose and has two sons, Graham, 7, and Aaron, 5.

Calvin S. McLean is studying for his master's degree at Phillips University in Enid, Okla., while working at Northern Oklahoma College.

Roberto P. Rosenkranz, Ph.D., was named president and chief operating officer of Scios Inc., a biopharmaceutical company in Mountain View.

'81 Carrie Low has joined the firm of Deloitte & Touche LLP, an international accounting and consulting firm in San Francisco, as a recruiting manager for the Northern California region. Low is responsible for recruiting senior-level, experienced people for the firm.

Mickey L. Mattox recently received a Ph.D. in the history of Christianity from Duke University. He now serves as assistant professor of historical theology at Concordia University in River Forest, Ill., where he lives with his wife, Pamela (Young) Mattox '80, and their two sons, Samuel and Clement. Mattox also spent part of his summer in Germany, doing research funded by a Pew Grant.

Keith A. Watkins is chief of Urban Water Conservation at the California Department of Water Resources.

John Wellington, an engineering manager at Litton Electron Devices in San Carlos, and his wife, Eva (Blasberg) Wellington '83, have a 3-year-old son, Eric, and are expecting their second child. Last summer, John toured Japan with California Repercussions, a marching rock and roll big band composed primarily of ex-Aggie band members. He also performs with the rock band Too Much Fun, the Nova Vista Symphony Orchestra and other local musical theater groups.

'82 Carol Davydova has been named development director for the Sacramento Museum of History, Science & Technology.

Eve Downing is an editor and writer for Resource Development at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Ann Campbell Laidlaw, manager of applications at SheLyn Inc. in Greensboro, N.C., was awarded the Nickerson Service Award from the Inter-Society Color Council for her contributions to the council. In May she and her husband, Ron Williams, had a baby boy, Ryan Laidlaw Williams.

Celeste Rose, J.D., assistant vice president for university relations and special assistant to the UC president, has been named group executive director for public affairs for the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Rose is the first African American woman appointed to the association's senior management staff.

'83 Bevan W. Basham has been named staff assistant at Eastman Chemical Co. He relocated from Caracas, Venezuela, where he was district sales manager, to Miami, Fla., where he lives with his wife, Cynthia, and their two children.

Wayne Perry is the president of Cornerstone Concilium Inc., a facilities and transportation-engineering consulting firm in San Francisco, where he also lives on the waterfront at Fort Mason.

Vincent Stevenson, formerly known as Dr. V, a KDVS disc jockey, is now a systems analyst for Pacific Bell in San Ramon. He lives in Oakland with his wife and three children.

'84 Suzie Campbell Carstens, M.S. '86, and her husband, Bruce Carstens '85, D.V.M. '91, have opened Willow Rock Pet Hospital in Rocklin. They live in Stanford Ranch with their two sons and are active members of the Cal Aggie Alumni Marching Band-uh! The hospital's Web address is <www.willowrockpet.com>.

Julie Dunn was named chief resident in the Department of Surgery at East Tennessee State University's James H. Quillen College of Medicine. Earlier this year, she received a gold medal from Southeastern Surgical Congress for a research abstract, and a first-place award during the university's 13th annual Student Research Forum. She and her husband, Thomas Warne, have two children, Andrea and Maria, and live in Johnson City, Tenn.

Daniel D. Myers Jr. is a recent graduate of Tuskegee School of Veterinary Medicine in Alabama and has received a postdoctoral research position in the University of Michigan's laboratory animal medicine unit. He and his wife, Yvonne, have two children.

Eric E. Nichols recently earned a master's degree in systems engineering from Virginia Tech via televised classes offered by satellite from the main campus. He is a space systems engineer in Dahlgren, Va.

Marine Maj. Wendy A. Stafford, J.D. '87, completed a month-long U.S.­Jordan military operation with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. She recently visited Eritrea in eastern Africa, where her unit conducted training exercises and helped build a public library.

David Starkey, assistant English professor at North Central College in Naperville, Ill., won a Dissinger Prize for faculty scholarship. He is the editor of Teaching Writing Creatively and recently published Open Mike Night at the Cabaret Voltaire, a collection of poems.

'85 Archie D. Graham has moved to Sacramento to teach science at Natomas High School by day and English to adults at night. Formerly, he was a biologist for the Stanford Research International, Matrix Pharmaceuticals, Somatix Gene Therapy and Chiron companies.

Lisa M. Jacobsen is the new chair of the labor and employment law department at the law offices of Rosenfeld, Meyer & Susman LLP in Beverly Hills. She represents employers against claims of wrongful termination, sexual harassment and employment discrimination.

Calvin W. Johnson, assistant professor of physics and astronomy at Louisiana State University, was one of 20 faculty members chosen to receive a Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from Oak Ridge Associated Universities--a $5,000 grant to support his research involving exotic nuclei and nuclear astrophysics.

Loyd Ware is a housing designer/adviser for the city of Oakland. He also serves as an adjudicator for neighborhood and housing restoration issues.

Heidi Haugen, Cred. '88, is one of three California finalists for a Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching; the recipient will be announced in November. She also received a National Association of Biology Teachers Outstanding Teaching Award for California.

Edward Y. Hsi, J.D., president and chief executive officer of P.T. Humpuss Petrochemicals, has been in Indonesia developing Southeast Asia's petrochemical industry and the region's first private petroleum refinery.

Angela Oh, J.D., a state and federal criminal defense attorney, is one of six people chosen by President Clinton to serve on his advisory board on race relations in America.

Rena Gaines Page has been a high school teacher for the past nine years and lives in Lakewood with her husband, also a graduate of UC Davis.

Marine Maj. Steven A. Ross participated in a multinational exercise with Thailand while assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. His unit also did volunteer work at a school for the disabled in Thailand, removing concrete rubble and painting the interior of the school auditorium.

'87 Tony Weber earned his master's degree in business administration from San Diego State and is currently employed by Netscape.

L.G. Williams, M.F.A., a visiting art instructor at UC Davis, was recently nominated for the Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art Award, which is given by the San Francisco Museum of Art. He is participating this year in solo and group shows throughout California, and his most recent book, Clean Shorts and Recent Wood (Perfect Corner), was published in January. In addition, 11 new videos by Williams are available through Perfect Corner.

'88 Kevin Duggan was named executive director of the Davis Chancellor's Club at UC Davis; he also serves as president-elect of the Davis Chamber of Commerce.

Helen McPeak received a master of divinity degree from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley and was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal church in May. Currently, she is assistant rector at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Kenwood.

Kathleen Weber has been working in computer network and software technical support for the past few years and is now pursuing her doctoral degree in American political science and environmental science at Indiana University in Bloomington. She writes: "I was on a flight back from Paris a couple of years ago and was pleasantly surprised when the Parisians sitting next to me responded to my saying I'd graduated from Davis with 'Oh, the University of California at Davis! It's a very good school!' Our little 'Aggie' school is known worldwide! (What was really funny, though, was that they hadn't heard of Berkeley! DAVIS RULES!)"

Peter A. Wenzel recently joined Graham & James LLP in its Seattle office as an associate attorney. He specializes in intellectual property matters with an emphasis on technology-related transactions.

'89 Jacqueline Marie Kutnick, who graduated from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law in May, received the Pro Bono Law Association Public Service Award Silver Medal for outstanding service in the field of public interest law and tied for the William M. Pomerantz Trial Prize for excellence in the regional mock trial competition.

Karen Audrey Moeller received an M.D. degree in May from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. She is serving an internal medicine residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
