In support of C.A.

Sadly, the alumni board has decided to drop the "Cal Aggie" name. The Cal Aggie is not some tired, outdated symbol; the C.A. displays our shared campus heritage and unique style, across college and major.

Students are proud of the Cal Aggie as the symbol of UC Davis. Campus spirit is ascending--creation of the Aggie Pack sport supporters, revival of the El Rodeo campus yearbook, and new generations of students are learning the "Bossy Cow Cow" cheer. In fact, this year students passed a referendum favoring the Aggie as the official campus mascot.

The process employed to drop the C.A. was unfortunate--the vote was taken without the benefit of surveys or broad public input. In 1987, the last time a name change was considered, a mail ballot of the entire alumni association membership was conducted, and the proposal was defeated by nearly 2 to 1. How quickly history is forgotten!

In the past few years, the C.A. has been removed from the alumni association logo and painted over on campus water towers. The C.A. is history we don't want to lose.
