Pam Fair was recently named vice president of marketing and customer services for San Diego Gas and Electric Co. Before relocating to San Diego with her husband, Glen Sullivan, and her new son, Teddy, she worked at Southern California Gas Co. for 14 years, the last three as vice president of residential services. Walter Harrison, Ph.D., has been named president of the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Conn. He was formerly vice president for university relations and secretary of the university at the University of Michigan.
Benjamin Licari has been appointed to the state Mining and Geology Board by Gov. Pete Wilson. Licari has been a business development manager for Canyon Resource Corp., Briggs Mine, since 1996. Marsha Presley-Holloway was recently appointed as part of the science team for the Mars Microprobes Mission that will be launched in January. After receiving her Ph.D. in 1995 and completing a two-year postdoctoral appointment at the NASA Ames Research Center, she returned to Arizona State University as a faculty research associate. She was married in May to John Holloway, a professor at ASU.
Don Ranstrom, M.A., retired after 28 years of Lutheran campus ministry in Davis. The Rev. Ranstrom worked at The Belfry, a Lutheran and Episcopalian campus outreach center and was one of the founders of Davis' International House. Ranstrom now plans to continue pursuing his interests in woodworking, bicycling, traveling and writing. He is married, with six children and seven grandchildren.
Bevan W. Basham, an employee for the past 14 years of Eastman Chemical Co., has been named sales manager and has relocated with his wife, Cindy, and two children to Sao Paulo, Brazil. Michael Long is the new assistant vice president of securities for Pacific Life in Newport Beach. He joined Pacific Life in 1994. Peter Loyd teaches biology at St. Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco. He received his M.S. in molecular biology from Iowa State University. He and his wife, Tina, are expecting triplets. Mary McCormick (Lucas) Maaga recently published a book, Hearing the Voices of Jonestown (Syracuse University Press), about the deaths of more than 1,000 members of the religious group Peoples Temple in 1978. After graduating from UC Davis, Maaga received a M.Div. and Ph.D. and is serving as co-pastor for a United Methodist church in New Jersey with her husband. Bob Milbrodt, a real estate appraiser for the Yolo County assessor's office, ran for county assessor in the June 2nd primary, but lost to co-worker Dick Fisher. Milbrodt lives in Davis with his wife, who teaches science at Patwin Elementary School, and their three children.
Partners James J. Clark, D.V.M. '88, and Steven M. Dana, D.V.M. '88, have opened the Pet Emergency and Specialty Center of Marin, providing after-hours emergency care and the services of specialists in internal medicine, surgery and critical care. Both veterinarians are familiar with Marin County--Dana has been living in Marin and working in the Bay Area, while Clark grew up in the Marin area and plans to relocate there from the San Diego area.
Douglas Hodell, J.D., was named a new partner of the Sacramento law firm of Boutin, Dentino, Gibson & Di Giusto and his name was added to the firm's title. Hodell is a transactional lawyer. Gregory W. McCracken has been an associate attorney at Murphy, Pearson, Bradley & Feeney in Sacramento since 1995. After graduating from UC Davis, he studied in Spain for a semester in 1986, received his J.D. from McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento and was married in 1993. This May, he and his wife had their first child, Chloe Elizabeth, and this summer he began graduate studies at the University of Illinois, Chapaign- Urbana, pursuing a master's degree in urban planning.
Stacie Strong will be taking her studies overseas this fall as a doctoral candidate in international and comparative law at the University of Cambridge in England. During the last four years she has been working as a general litigator at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP in New York and has had several articles published in prominent law reviews. Strong has also been admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales. Michael Yanuck was awarded an M.D. degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in commencement ceremonies this spring.
Scott Christensen, M.D. '91, is the new medical director for Yolo Hospice, a nonprofit agency that helps terminally ill patients live at home while still receiving quality health care. Christensen, a postdoctoral fellow in the UC Davis Division of Hematology and Oncology, provides medical advice and consultation to the hospice patient-care team. He also serves the community as a volunteer physician at the Center for AIDS Research. Ingrid Lundberg was a Republican candidate for lieutenant governor in the June 2 primary, losing to candidate Tim Leslie.
Emilio Soltero has published a paperback titled Figure It Out. In the book he instructs young artists on drawing a realistic human form and gives examples of his favorite comic book art and artists. Soltero has also created a comic book that encourages minority students to come to UC Davis. He has earned a teaching credential and a master's in art education and is now working on his Ph.D. at UC Davis. His new book is available locally at bookstores in Davis, Sacramento and Woodland.
Stephanie Augustino recently received her J.D. from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego. While there she participated in the school's law review and on the mock-trial team. Trudy Milburn was recently granted a doctorate of philosophy in communication by the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and accepted a position as director of membership programs with the American Management Association in New York City. She is married and has a 1-year-old daughter named June Elizabeth Christian. Henrik Olsen is the design director at Studio Archetype, currently on assignment in the firm's New York office. Olsen's work at the Art Center's European campus earned him international design awards in both packaging and corporate identity.
