Michael Buck joined the Sacramento law firm Downey, Brand, Seymour and Rohwer LLP as an associate attorney. After graduating from UC Davis, Buck received his law degree from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1993 and served as assistant general counsel to the California Environmental Protection Agency. Dottie Dartland, M.F.A., co-creator and executive producer of the sitcom "Dharma & Greg" for the show's first two seasons, is now developing a new television series. Dartland has also written for shows such as "Cybill," "Grace Under Fire" and "China Beach." She lives in Malibu, loves to surf and is engaged to "Dharma & Greg" writer Eric Zicklin. Matthew Dudman, M.B.A. '93, joined Weintraub Genshlea & Sproul's business law section in Sacramento. After attending Université Panthéon-Assas in Paris, Dudman went on to Tulane Law School. He is pursuing an LL.M. in taxation at Golden Gate University, where he earned a Merit Scholarship Award. Janet (Fields) Jaworski received her law degree from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law in May, graduating magna cum laude. In September, Jaworski began working as an associate attorney at McGuire, Woods, Battle and Boothe LLP in Tysons Corner, Va.
John Brosio's tornado paintings were recently featured in a show in Louisville, Ky. Brosio, a former intern for George Lucas in the "Creature Shop" at Industrial Light and Magic, began chasing tornadoes after graduating from UC Davis. Alfred Differ, M.S., Ph.D. '92, a computer programmer, helped a Davis group in its attempt to launch the first amateur rocket into space. According to Differ, the launch was not successful because the rocket didn't reach the American definition of space, 60 miles from Earth, but the rocket and its launcher worked as planned, making it a good test run. The group plans to attempt the launch again in mid-September. Gayle Denny Kuzmich recently had a baby girl, Jayne Elizabeth. Kuzmich, a commerical underwriter for Burns and Wilcox, was also named Insurance Woman of the Year by the Insurance Professionals of Sacramento. She lives in Sacramento with her husband, John, a high school teacher. Angi Lee, an attorney, recently joined the law firm of Crabtree and Rahmsdorff in Bend, Ore., and was also appointed to the Bend Area Urban Planning Commission. She writes that she would like to "say 'hi' to my friends from Beckett Hall, especially Marcy." Jennifer (Lickiss) and Rick Tan recently had a daughter, Victoria JoAnn. The couple also has a son, Ricardo Steven. In 1996, Jennifer received a master's in educational administration from Chapman University and is currently an elementary school assistant principal. Rick received an M.D. from the University of the East in Manila in 1996 and is now an educational consultant for the Murrieta Valley Unified School District's Gifted and Talented Education Program and a stay-at-home dad. Chris Swenson is currently a business strategist at SGI, a Silicon Valley manufacturer of computer servers, supercomputers and visual workstations. Previously, Swenson worked at Cadence Design Systems Inc. in product planning and at Ernst & Young's Business and Strategic Analysis Group conducting market research. Lisa Yi, former associate director of financial aid at Kansas State University, is now associate director of financial aid at California State University, Sacramento. She says that she "still plans on rooting for the Aggies on September 18th!" J. Antonio Treviño, cellar master at the Rodney Strong and Windsor Winery, recently travelled to study the fabrication of oak barrels. He and his wife, Michella (Hopkins) '93, M.A.T. '95, live in Sebastopol. Julie Won-Tatsukawa just started her own graphic design business, Won-Tatsukawa Design, in Sunnyvale. Mike Adams received an M.D. from the UC Irvine College of Medicine in June and started a residency in family medicine at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. James Edward Boyd received an M.D. from Saint Louis University and is currently a medical resident in obstetrics and gynecology at the Los Angeles CountyUSC Women and Children's Hospital. He and his wife, Tara Matthews-Boyd '95, live in Pasadena and have a daughter, Madeline Star. Tara received her B.S.N. from Saint Louis University and works as a registered nurse in Los Angeles. Diana Ralls and her husband, Jason '94, welcomed their first child, Adisson, in January. Diana is the K12 coordinator for the Office of Academic Programs at the UC Center in Fresno. Luis R. Ríos Jr. is attending Teachers College at Columbia University in New York City, pursuing a Ph.D. in Spanish education. Last fall, he received his master's in education from California State University, Sacramento. Ríos also attended the University of Madrid, earned a diploma in Spanish literature from the Sociedad Cervantina and a certificate in Mesoamerican culture from the American studies department of the Museo de América in Madrid. Cameron Smyth works as deputy chief of staff to California Sen. Pete Knight, having previously worked as a field representative and a campaign manager for Knight. Jason Hirst Turner received his doctor of medicine degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in May. Turner has now begun a residency in family practice at the Scottsdale Memorial Hospital in Arizona. Shawn T. van Enoo received his doctor of podiatric medicine degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine in June and is currently in a two-year surgical residency at Bellwood General Hospital in Bellflower. On the day of his graduation, van Enoo proposed to Gina L. Wilvang '95, who will receive her doctorate in podiatric medicine from the same university in June 2000. The two plan to wed in 2001. Kristen C. Herman graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in May. While in medical school, Herman served on the educational policy committee and Curriculum 2000 task force. Herman began her residency in pediatrics at the UC Davis Medical Center in July. Christopher Knaus was recently appointed by Gov. Gary Locke to the University of Washington's board of regents, making him the second student ever appointed a regent at UW. Knaus has also begun his second year in the university's multicultural education Ph.D. program. Dawnne M. LePretre was living in Cochabamba, Bolivia, volunteering her time at a home for abandoned children. There, LePretre taught prospective teachers how to use materials around them for classroom science experiments, played with the children and sponsored trips for them away from the home. In August, she became the senior science teacher for a new Edison Foundation charter school in Chicago. Tan Tri Pham graduated from Wake Forest University School of Medicine, receiving a doctor of medicine degree. He is now serving a residency in family practice at Sutter Health Family Practice in Sacramento. Erik Hillard is relocating to Pasadena to attend the Art Center College of Design to pursue a photography degree. Before his move, Hillard worked for a packaging design firm for two years. Samira Nikaein received her law degree from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law this summer. While at the law school, Nikaein was named to the National Dean's List in the fall of 1998. Erick Oshel is pursuing a master's degree in environmental science and management at the UC Donald Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at UC Santa Barbara. In the two-year interdisciplinary program, Oshel studies ecology, earth science, politics and economics. Oshel was also elected the external president for the UC Santa Barbara Graduate Student Association, representing the association off-campus. |
