'80 Mark Castellucci, a certified public accountant in Davis, was profiled in the March issue of Money magazine as a "model tax pro," after receiving top honors in a nationwide tax test given by the magazine.

Daniel L. Hutchins has returned from a six-month deployment in the Pacific and Indian oceans. While aboard the guided missile cruiser USS California, he participated in Operation Desert Strike in the Persian Gulf and traveled to Australia, Bahrain, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore.

'82 Mark Himelstein, M.S., was recently appointed vice president of engineering and chief technology officer of ENlighten Software Solutions based in San Mateo. Before joining the ENlighten team, Himelstein served as engineering director for Apple Computers' open systems and core tools groups.

Scott Whitley was appointed senior vice president for Coors Brewing Company's newly expanded South Central field business area. Whitley manages Coors' sales, marketing and distribution for New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma. Whitley has worked for Coors for 13 years. He lives in Southlake, Texas, with his wife, Donna, and son, James.

'83Hector A. Bedolla was recently appointed vice president of vineyard operations for the Hambrecht Wine Group, which supplies grapes for Belvedere and Grove Street wineries. Bedolla also co-owns and manages 48 acres of vineyards in Sonoma County.

Rene Martucci's sculptures were recently featured in a group exhibition at the John Natsoulas Gallery in Davis. Her ceramic works have been displayed in galleries across the country, including the Ann Nathan Gallery in Chicago.

'84 Stevan Van Nuys Allen was appointed vice president of public affairs for Fleishman-Hillard Inc., a public relations firm in Sacramento. Allen will assist clients with public affairs strategies, such as grassroots lobbying, media campaigns and community relations. Previously, Allen had served as press secretary to California Lt. Gov. Gray Davis and had been a newspaper reporter for The Washington Post and St. Petersburg Times.

Barbara N. Kunkel, an assistant professor of biology at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., was awarded a grant from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. The $500,000 fellowship grant will be distributed over the next five years to further her research on plant pathogen interactions.

Anne Stausboll, J.D., has been appointed deputy general counsel for the California Public Employees' Retirement System. Stausboll serves as legal counsel to the CalPERS board's benefits and program administration committee and the alternative investment and management program, as well as handling conflict of interest and ethics issues.

Gina Burke Tarke, an independent management consultant, and her husband, David Tarke '85, an investment representative with Edward Jones and a partner in Tarke Cousins farming, recently had their first child, Franklin Davis. They live in Yuba City.

Christopher Winterbottom, M.S. '89, M.B.A. '93, recently joined the California strawberry Commission as a research associate. He coordinates research on methods of controlling soil-borne pests and pathogens. Winterbottom previously worked as a postgraduate researcher in the Department of Plant Pathology at UC Davis and has also worked in the strawberry industry in both Italy and the United Kingdom. He now lives in Watsonville.

'85Michael G. Hart is president of the 100-year-old Sierra Railroad Co., which operates freight trains from Sonora and Jamestown to the Central Valley and has been featured in numerous movies and commercials. In the summer, the railroad also hosts Railtown 1897 in Jamestown where the California State Railroad Museum operates steam trains. He lives in the Santa Cruz mountains above Los Gatos with his wife, Angie (Roberts) '86, and their two children, ages 3 and 5.

Paul B. Jones has joined ValueNomics Research Inc., a business valuation services company based in Cupertino, as a senior analyst. Before joining ValueNomics, Jones was an audit supervisor with Wilson, McCall and Daoro, CPAs, in San Francisco.

Gary P. Schroth, Ph.D. '90, has accepted a position as a scientist with Genelabs Technologies in Redwood City. Schroth's research focuses on the development of novel DNA-binding drugs.

'70 Perry Gregg, J.D., is the owner of The Roast, a restaurant in San Francisco. Brad Hicks, M.A. '88, is a news anchor with WGAL-TV, the NBC affiliate in Harrisburg, Pa. He has been honored by the Associated Press and the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasting and in 1996 won an Emmy for a TV special on the dangers of low-head dams in Pennsylvania. The program was also honored for best story idea of 1995 by NBC News.

Nicole DeLaurentis Lazar is a claims business systems analyst with Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. Previously, Lazar worked with the California State Automobile Association as a property adjuster, casualty adjuster and then special investigation unit member. She lives in Marin County with her husband, Adam.

Nanette R. Walker Smith is a registered veterinary technician with Sacramento Veterinary Surgical Services. She is a state representative to the National Veterinary Technician Association and a member of the state Veterinary Technician Committee. Smith and her husband, David Smith, recently had a daughter, Alyssa.

'87 Navy Lt. Charles E. Adams is on assignment at Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center in Monterey.

'88 Laura Garcia-Frigyes and her husband, Stuart Frigyes, graduated from Creighton University Medical School in Omaha, Neb., in 1993. They completed their residencies in internal medicine and are now practicing with Physicians Clinic in Omaha where they live with their 1-year-old daughter, Alexis.

Andrew S. Mendlin graduated from McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento in 1995 and is now an associate attorney with Curtis & Arata Law Offices in Modesto. Mendlin was also appointed by the Modesto City Council to the city zoning board and the citizen's housing and community development committee in 1996. He is married to Valli Israels.

Lisa Hale Stevenson is an administrative assistant in the UC Davis athletics department. Her husband, Scott Stevenson '92, is publications coordinator in the department. In 1992, they became the first couple to be married at the Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center on campus. After the ceremony, the wedding party and the guests rode the double-decker buses through town to the reception at Mr. B's Bar & Grill.

Mark Trezza received his master's degree in government from California State University, Sacramento, in 1992. He is now teaching at West Hills Community College in Coalinga, CSU Fresno, Chapman University in Orange and College of the Sequoias in Visalia. His wife, Kathy Trezza '89, received her master's degree in counseling from CSU Sacramento in 1991 and is now a counselor at West Hills Community College. They live in Hanford.

Navy Lt. Camille R. Williams took part in a multinational exercise designed to strengthen cooperation among naval forces and promote regional security in the Pacific. She is now on a six-month assignment in the Western Pacific Ocean with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Darin Wilson, M.A. '89, composed and arranged the music for the UC Davis production of Twelfth Night.

'89 Philip Kaplan recently started Anawave Software Inc., an Internet software publishing and services company. Kaplan lives in Newport Beach and skis, in-line skates and surfs during his spare time.

Kailash Khandke, M.A., Ph.D. '93, was appointed Robert E. Hughes assistant professor of economics and business administration at Furman University in Greenville, S.C. He will hold the position for the 1996-97 and 1997-98 school years.

Tanya (Wattenburg) Komas received a master's degree from Columbia University and is now working toward a Ph.D. in architecture at Texas A&M University. She married Nicholas Komas, a resident in orthopaedic surgery in the Army, last year and lives in San Antonio.

Eric Mariotti, after completing a residency in general surgery, is going to the University of Kentucky in Louisville to start a fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Mariotti and his wife, Deb, are expecting their first child in June.

Katherine (Morjig) Parker, the nutrition unit manager at the Clinical Research Center at the University of New Mexico, was recently married. The couple lives in Tijeras, N.M. David Popham, Ph.D., has accepted a position as assistant professor in the biology department at Virginia Tech. He and his wife, Marita, purchased their first home in Blacksburg, Va., where they live with their two children, Sara, 3, and Erik, 1.

Paul Thomas, Ph.D., was awarded a five-year fellowship in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Cambridge, England. He lives in Cambridge with his wife, Diane L. Cranz '83.
