In Memoriam

Viola (Dorothy) Russ McBride '27 died in October at the age of 90. One of the first women to enroll at UC Davis, Mrs. McBride was a member of the wool growers' and cattlemen's associations and was the first female president of the Humboldt County Cattlemen's Association. She restored Victorian homes and wrote and illustrated books. She is survived by three sons, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

George Bowman '40 died in December of Alzheimer's disease. During his years at UC Davis, he participated in ROTC and wrote for The California Aggie; in 1939 he served as editor. During World War II, he was a colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Bowman was a faculty member at Washington State University until his retirement. He is survived by two daughters.

James F. Millerick '40 died in December following a heart attack. During his years at UC Davis, he was a member of Phi Alpha Iota fraternity. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1960 and returned to ranching in the Sonoma area. He is survived by his wife, Rose.

John Randall Goss '56 died in January at his home in Cumming, Iowa, of a brain tumor. He was 48. He had recently retired from E.I. Du Pont de Nemours & Co., where he had served as product development manager. He is survived by his wife, Alison; his son, Peter; his daughter, Cory; his parents, two sisters and a brother.

Capt. Nichol Paul Sias '61, a pilot with Peninsula Airways, was lost at sea in August while flying a Grumman G-21G turbine Goose in Anderson Bay off the island of Unalaska. He had been a pilot in Alaska since 1975. He is survived by his wife, Fay, and their son, Mark.
