"One Medicine"
Articles about interdisciplinary medical research and education in your winter 1997 edition fulfill the dreams and efforts of the late Sen. Walter Stearn of Bakersfield, the only veterinarian ever to serve in the California Legislature.
In the mid-1960s, when the UC Davis School of Medicine was being debated and developed by the regents and the legislature, Sen. Stearn strongly championed the principles now being realized by creation of the Center for Comparative Medicine.
Not everyone believed Sen. Stearn's ideas made good educational sense. Time has proved the merit of his foresight, and he would be very proud.
