'80 Paul Igasaki, J.D., the first Asian American vice chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, served as acting chair of the commission in 1998. In that position, Igasaki is credited with helping to increase the efficiency of the commission and securing increased funding for the agency.

'81 D.J. Marrs Smith is co-owner, with her husband, of Dusinberré Napa Valley Champagne. Smith lives in Calistoga and is involved with the community as the Calistoga High School cheerleading coach and as a volunteer firefighter. She is also a teddy bear and bunny artist and mom to 4-year-old Ashley Valentine.

'82 Mark T. Hoyer, Ph.D. '95, recently published Dancing Ghosts: Native American and Christian Syncretism in Mary Austin's Work. In his book, Hoyer draws on his understanding of Native American mythology and Christianity in his analysis of the work of turn-of-the-century nature writer Mary Austin.

'83 René Martucci is a ceramist who is known for her humorous ceramic dogs and other life-size figures that she has exhibited around the world. Jeff Rogers, M.A., is superintendent of Christian Heritage School, a K–12 private school in Edwall, Wash. He has been a teacher and administrator for more than 18 years.

'84 John Camara recently published a study guide for the nuclear professional engineer exam titled 101 Solved Nuclear Engineering Problems (Professional Publications Inc.). The guide is designed for those studying for the exam and for people working in the nuclear engineering and medical fields. Gregory Stewart, Ph.D., was the 1998 recipient of the Robert Eagon Award for Microbial Physiology Research for his work in the natural transformation of bacteria. Now a professor and chair of the biology department at the State University of West Georgia, Stewart became interested in this subject during his studies with Professor John Ingraham at UC Davis.

'85 Stephen Fleming, M.F.A., a ceramic and raku artist, has taught at the Kansas City Art Institute and has received grants and awards, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship for painting. Jonathan Lee recently relocated to Minneapolis where he is working as a tax manager at KPMG, LLP. He spent the previous 13 years in Boston, working for 10 of those years as a tax attorney. He and his wife, Carol, a third-year medical student at the University of Minnesota, were married last June. '86 Todd Eastman joined Arter & Hadden LLP in the law firm's San Diego office as an associate in the real estate group. He previously served as a law clerk to the Honorable David R. Thompson in the U.S. Court of Appeals. Steven Weiss was named marketing manager for The Sacramento Bee, where he directs activities in the areas of promotion, media planning and event marketing. Weiss previously worked at UC Davis, directing the university's performing arts and lecture series. He has also lectured on management theory and served as California State Sen. Gary Hart's deputy campaign manager in 1986.

'87 Sunil Ahuja recently finished his residency in urology at Tulane University in New Orleans and is serving with the U.S. Army at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash. Ahuja writes that he, his wife, Sonya, and their children, Saira, 4, and Jai, 20 months, are enjoying the transition from the Bayou to the Pacific Northwest. Brian Olson has been promoted to supervising investigator for the state of Idaho Department of Insurance Fraud Unit. He supervises criminal insurance fraud, arson and auto theft investigations and prosecutions being conducted throughout the state. Olson started his career in law enforcement with the UC Davis police department in 1983. He also worked as a criminal investigator for the California Department of Insurance in 1989–1994. Olson lives in Boise with his wife, Alisa.

'89 Kari Copley, who for 10 years managed and taught in the San Joaquin County Arts Council's Artists-in-Schools Program, was honored with an award from the Stockton Arts Commission for "inspiring dedication to arts education." Under her management, the program, which sends visual and performing artists into schools to interact with students, expanded into the county jail and California Youth Authority. Copley, a ceramic artist and now teacher at Ceres High School, has been president of the Manteca Arts Guild for the past two years and also recently received an award from the city honoring her contributions to the community. Judy Holly was named research assistant for Monsanto Global Seed Group in Kihei, Maui. Holly was previously a biologist for the Peregrine Fund and is on the board of directors for the Maui Association of Landscape Professionals and the Maui Farmers Coop Exchange. She and her husband, John, have five children: Jolene, Jennifer, Jocelyn, Juniper and Jonathon. AmyOgle recently self-published an educational book and video for prospective parents titled Before Your Pregnancy: Prepare Your Body for a Healthy Pregnancy--Expert Advice on Nutrition and Exercise. Ogle is a registered dietitian and exercise physiologist. She and her husband, Jamie Ogle '91, live in San Diego with their daughter, Sarah.
