Memories That Linger

The name North Hall still brings back fond memories [winter 1997 issue]. It was my first encounter with a U.S. campus and university life. Arriving from Vienna, Austria, as a Fulbright Scholarship recipient and planning to do graduate work at Roadhouse Hall (another UC Davis landmark) with Dr. Tom Nickerson, I found life in the United States full of surprises and challenges. North Hall and its environment helped to successfully integrate me into UC Davis and into the U.S. university curriculum.

North Hall was a place to meet young people from all over the world; the term "global village" could have been coined in those days: fall 1963! It was a place to develop friendships--some lasting until today.

The North Hall atmosphere and the spirit of North Hall were good to me: They helped me enter a successful journey leading to the M.S. and the Ph.D. at Davis.

I have not visited Davis for many years; however, I am sure I shall have the opportunity in the future to get to this alma mater again, and I plan to look up the Quadrangle and North and South Hall.
