Population problems

In "Sierra SOS" [fall 1996] you describe another very upsetting example of California's major problem. We simply have too many people. We are now almost 32 million people (larger than Canada or Australia). The annual increase is almost 280,000 per year plus uncounted immigrants from other states and abroad.

The population movement has been unable to bring sufficient political attention to this major problem, which will ruin California's priceless environment for future generations. It particularly distresses me that cities along 99E and Davis (and the university) are destroying our very finest soils.

It seems to me that this is a truly worthy project for the College of Agriculture. Overpopulation and the loss of its priceless land and scenery will ruin our precious California.
