'90 John J. Berger, Ph.D., has published a book, Charging Ahead: The Business of Renewable Energy and What It Means for America (Henry Holt and Co.), which explores how renewable energy sources can produce a clean environment and healthy economy. Berger writes and teaches on energy and natural resource issues, and is the author of previous books on nuclear and renewable energy and environmental restoration; he has a forthcoming volume on forestry. Walter Shriner, M.S., Ph.D. '95, has been appointed a faculty member of Denison University in Granville, Ohio. He is an assistant professor of biology. Steve Weiss is the new online and media relations director for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education in Washington, D.C.

'91 Waynea Chen graduated from the University of Nevada School of Medicine in 1995 and is currently a pathology resident at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, where she met her husband, Ernest Hong, also a pathology resident. They married in April and honeymooned in Kauai, Hawaii. Troy Dalton, M.F.A., was one of four Northern California artists whose work was included in a show at Sacramento's Crocker Art Museum that featured tradition as well as artistic innovation. His next exhibition will be a solo show in January at the Michael Himovitz Gallery, also in Sacramento. Michael Nelson is the president of a Web design and hosting company called SacWeb. Recently, Nelson's company helped design a home page for the UC Davis University Extension's International Training and Education Center, which was recognized as the best education and training site in the Sacramento Valley at the Sacramento Web Awards. Suzanne Chavez Silverman, Ph.D., received tenure and was promoted to associate professor of Romance languages and literatures at Pomona College, where she also chairs the Latin American Studies Program. She is a co-editor of Tropicalizations: Transcultural Representations of Latinidad (Dartmouth University Press), a recommended book in the July­ August issue of Hispanic magazine.

'92 Michael Chang has joined Seiko Epson Corp. as international legal counsel. He will be based in Nagano, Japan, in the legal department of Seiko Epson's worldwide corporate headquarters and will concentrate on international corporate, commercial and intellectual property law. Chang previously practiced at the Century City office of a large New York law firm. Brian S. Ebbert has been appointed principal clerk of the State Assembly Rules Committee. In that role, Ebbert edits and publishes the Assembly Daily File, directs recruitment of UC Davis and California State University, Sacramento, students for paid internships at the Capitol, advises legislators and Capitol staff on parliamentary procedure and is chief editor of the book California's Legislature (1997 edition).

'93 Stephan H. Andranian and Duane Dichiara are currently working on Darrell Issa's campaign for U.S. Senate. Both worked for the Republican Party in San Diego after graduating from John Marshall Law School in Chicago and University of San Diego School of Law, respectively. Lisa Bradshaw, Ph.D., is currently a faculty member at the Center for Sustainable Development Studies in Atenas, Costa Rica, one of six environmental study-abroad programs run by the School for Field Studies. She has been involved in research on coffee growing and the social and environmental impacts of switching from traditional plantations to high-yield, full-sun coffee fields. Trisha Lotzer has graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law. Clayton Russell is a level two Reiki practitioner, one of about 200,000 in the United States. Reiki, an alternative healing technique, combines nature's energy with a person's own healing power to bring about change. Greg van Kesteren has been named branch manager of A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc. Napa Valley office. At 28, he is currently one of the youngest branch managers among 600 branches nationwide. As an active life member of the UC Davis Alumni Association, van Kesteren sponsors an internship program through the university to acquaint students with the financial services sector. Living in Napa, van Kesteren is active in local politics and athletic activities.

'94 Sandra Guzy graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law. Marine 1st Lt. Micah T. Myers was recently designated a naval aviator while serving at the Naval Air Station in Meridian, Miss. He received his "Wings of Gold," marking the culmination of months of flight training.
