| 1966Dave Veith has written a novel, DeLancey's Stapler: Love, Lust, Duty, Doom, Rage, Revelation and Pizza (AuthorHouse), based on his adventures at UC Davis when he lived in Aggie Villa and when "guys had to sign out the girls from their dorms" and female students "wore nylon stockings to the pizza parlor," a period that Veith wrote about for UC Davis Magazine's fall 1997 issue. '78, Ph.D. '82, a Cooperative Extension poultry specialist headquartered at UC Davis, was re-elected treasurer of the World's Poultry Science Association, a nearly 4,000-member organization. | 1979Susan Abplanalp-Weeks retired from the Gap and started her own business, Emery Street Inc., in Emeryville, a garment manufacturing company that produces dresses under the Karen Alexander label. • Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has appointed Robert Fracchia, J.D., a Solano County Superior Court judge. A longtime attorney, Fracchia had been a Juvenile Court commissioner. • David Kaslow, vice president in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Vaccines at Merck Research Laboratories in West Point, Pa., was inducted into May to the Johns Hopkins University Society of Scholars for his contributions to the development of vaccines for malaria and other infectious diseases. A former Johns Hopkins fellow, he founded the Malaria Vaccine Development Unit at the National Institutes of Health. He also directed the research and product development that led to clinical trials for vaccines against anthrax, West Nile virus, influenza, HIV and cancer. • The Rev. R. Jerome Thomas is senior pastor and teacher at the Church of All Faiths in Oakland and a commander in the chaplain corps for the U.S. Naval Reserve. He also works frequently with the Veterans Administration, performing burial services for veterans. After graduating from UC Davis, he joined the Peace Corps and taught agriculture at a high school in Kenya. He later earned a graduate degree in divinity studies from San Francisco Theological Seminary and a ministry doctorate from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. |
