Cool Jobs: David Kull ’88
“Not many people get this lucky,” Dave Kull says. “I get to talk and write about baseball every day, not to mention watch it. This is about as good as it gets.”
As senior deputy editor for ESPN.com, Kull oversees and coordinates all of the Major League Baseball coverage for the ESPN Web site.
Growing up in San Jose, Kull decided UC Davis was the perfect distance from home. His favorite things about UC Davis are the college-town feel and all the bikes on campus.
Kull majored in rhetoric and communication and soon found himself as sports editor of the California Aggie, where he spent two years on the staff. After graduation, Kull interned with two Sacramento television stations before landing his first newspaper job with the Dixon Tribune as a general assignment reporter. He later moved on to the Auburn Journal, where he spent six years as sports editor. In 1996, Kull was hired at ESPN.
“The best part of my job is the chance to go to all the different events,” he says. “In my time at ESPN, I’ve been to seven Super Bowls, five World Series, four MLB All-Star games and one college football national championship game.”
