Marjorie Grene
Richard Adamski, head of the ROTC program from 1974-78, died in April in Davis at age 77. Throughout his 30-year military career, he flew Huey helicopters in the Korean and Vietnam wars. His decorations include the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and Air Medal with 23 clusters.
Carol Eberhart, Ph.D. ’91, a Spanish language lecturer from 1982-96, died in February from cancer at age 53. She also taught at Sacramento colleges and, among other honors, received the 2003 Glencoe McGraw-Hill Outstanding Teacher Leader Award for the state of California. More...
Marjorie Grene, professor emerita of philosophy, died in March in Virginia at age 98. A founding figure in the field of the philosophy of biology, she joined the faculty in 1965 and retired in 1978. She authored 13 books, two of them on Aristotle, whom she regarded as a biologist as much as a philosopher. She was elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1977. She was the first woman to have an edition of the Library of Living Philosophers devoted to her — volume 29 in 2002. Previous volumes included Einstein and Sartre.
Richard “Dick” Teague, a former Cooperative Extension wildlife specialist and administrator, died in March at his Winters home at age 84. A World War II Navy Air Corps veteran, he joined Extension in 1963, became assistant director at UC Davis in 1970 and regional director for Northern California in 1977. He retired in 1989.
